Best in Hot Yoga Mats | VERY Non-Slip | Gaiam Sol Dry-Grip Yoga Mat Review
The Gaiam Sol Dry-Grip Mat retails for $64 – a great deal considering it holds up to sweat better than competing mats that retail for $100 and more.
If I had to describe this mat in an analogy I’d say that it’s dry like the desert.
My first impression was that the mat lacked texture of any kind. However, this flat black surface is incredibly non-slip.
OK, it boring and not as fun as making analogies, but let’s take a look at the specs.
The Gaiam Sol Dry-Grip measures 5 millimeters thick. It’s 68 inches long by 24 inches wide. 68 inches long is shorter than pretty much every other mat I dissect.
It’s made of rubber-free, latex-free, absorbent material – so perfect for those of you with latex sensitivity.
This mat didn’t have an official weight listed. I’m going to peg it around 2.5 to three pounds which is honestly pretty light compared to how sticky it is.
The Gaiam Sol Dry-Grip is the only mat that passed my sweat test with flying colors. Guys, you could use this mat as your umbrella. It’s so water resistant. No matter how much water I spritzed on it, I stayed secure and slip-free. The mat’s top layer absorbs water like a magic trick.
Pros of this mat is that it’s secure, slip-free, and it’s going to stay dry and keep you safe in sweaty humid classes.
Cons are that it lacks texture, depth, and it might not be as much cushioning as you want for a traditional non-hot yoga practice.
The Gaiam Sol Dry-Grip is my pick for Bikram yogis and Hot Vinyasa yogis who sweat and know they are going to drench the mat.
