Do you ever feel like you’re just making all the wrong decisions? Like no matter what you decide to do it doesn’t feel right?
That could be you aren’t using the right decision making strategies for your unique energy. Yep, you are a beautiful unique being and so it stands to reason that you might have a specific way to make decisions that feel in alignment with your true nature. This is an area your human design can help you with.
But what is human design?
What Is Human Design?
Human Design is a holistic system that integrates elements of astrology, the I Ching, Kabbalah, and the chakra system to provide insights into your unique personality, behavior patterns, and life purpose.
It is a framework for understanding yourself and those around you. It helps you by identifying strengths, challenges, and optimal strategies for decision-making and personal growth based on your specific human design type, including your type, authority, centers, channels, and profiles.
Your human design is just another tool to have in your self development toolkit. If you struggle with decision making or aren’t feeling in alignment, knowing your human design can help. By knowing the best strategy and authority for you to make decisions you can live more authentically. Isn’t that the goal? To live your life with your true expression and bring yourself back to homeostasis? That’s what human design is all about, helping you live a balanced life of purpose.
Another great way to get started on this journey to self discovery and inner trust is through my Yoga For Self Mastery course. You’ll learn to live your yoga and the three principles to create balance in your life.
History Of Human Design
Human Design was developed in the late 20th century by Ra Uru Hu (born Alan Robert Krakower). According to his account, in 1987, while living on the island of Ibiza, Spain, Ra had a mystical experience in which he had an encounter with a non-physical entity. This entity transmitted to him the knowledge and mechanics of what would become Human Design. This happened over the course of eight days and nights.
Ra spent years developing and refining this knowledge, integrating principles from various esoteric and spiritual traditions, including(as mentioned above) astrology, the I Ching, Kabbalah, and the chakra energy centers. He began teaching Human Design in 1989 and continued to do so until his passing in 2011.
Since its inception in 1989, Human Design has evolved in several ways:
- Growth in Popularity: Human Design has grown from a relatively obscure system to a more widely recognized and practiced approach to self-awareness and personal development. The internet has played a significant role in spreading awareness of Human Design, making it more accessible to people around the world.
- Refinement and Synthesis: Over the years, human design experts and enthusiasts have continued to refine and deepen their understanding of this new age practice. This has involved further exploration of its foundational principles and how they intersect with other disciplines such as psychology, spirituality, and holistic healing modalities.
- Diverse Applications: Human Design has expanded beyond its original scope as a tool for personal growth and self-understanding. It is now applied in various fields, including coaching, counseling, relationship dynamics, business consulting, and spiritual guidance.
- Integration with Technology: The rise of technology has facilitated the creation of online platforms and tools for generating Human Design charts, conducting readings, and offering educational resources. These digital resources have made it easier for people to explore and engage with Human Design on their own terms.
- Cultural Adaptation: Human Design has adapted to different cultural contexts and perspectives as it has spread globally. Practitioners and communities around the world bring their unique interpretations and applications of Human Design, enriching its diversity and relevance across various cultural landscapes.
Overall, Human Design has evolved into a multifaceted system that continues to inspire individuals on their journeys of self-discovery, personal transformation, and holistic well-being.

Human Design Types
There are many aspects of a human design chart, but the two largest parts are your Strategy Type and your Authority Type.
Strategy Types
Your strategy type tells you the best way to use your energy in order to interact with the world around you. Knowing this energy type allows your life to move with ease and flow. The five types of strategy in a human design chart include:
- Generator: Generators are persons with sustained/consistent energy, making them the workforce in society. Their strategy is often to be responsive to opportunities that present themselves.
- Projector: Projectors are the wisest of the strategy types. They are ready and willing to share all of the profound insights they’ve acquired through life. Their strategy for success is usually to wait for an invitation to take an opportunity rather than initiating or responding.
- Manifestor: Manifestors do exactly that, manifest their own opportunities. In other words, their strategy is to take the initiative towards their goals.
- Manifesting Generator: Manifesting Generators have the innate gifts of both Generators and Manifestors (hence the name manifesting generator). They have that sustainable energy and the drive to achieve great results with the opportunities that present themselves.
- Reflector: As the rarest strategy type, Reflectors act as a mirror to the world. Their strategy is to work along with the lunar cycle to make the best decisions for themselves and their environment.
Authority Types
An authority type in human design explains your decision making process. Insights from your authority type help you figure out the best way for you to make decisions that align with your life purpose..
- Emotional: Emotional authority is also known as solar plexus (manipura) authority. Someone with this authority type should make sure they do not have a high charge of emotion when making decisions.
- Sacral: The sacral authority asks you to “trust your gut”. Someone with this authority needs to learn to listen and respond to their gut instincts to make decisions in alignment for them.
- Splenic: Splenic authority means making immediate decisions in the moment. It’s about trusting your initial instincts to guide you where you need to go.
- Environmental: Someone with an Environmental(mental) authority doesn’t actually have an inner authority. They rely on external factors for their decision making process. If you have this authority it’s important to have a safe and comfortable environment as well as people you can trust completely to help guide you.
- Self-Projected: Self-projected authority is a person who needs to talk through their decisions before making them. They may like to have a trusted person around to listen for advice, but it’s the process of talking aloud that helps them sort through their thoughts and feelings to come to a decision.
- Lunar: This authority belongs to the Reflectors. This is simply waiting for a full lunar cycle to pass – 28 days – before making any major decisions.
- Ego: Ego or Ego Manifested authority will make decisions from the heart (anahata) space. If this is you, your decisions are directly influenced by your wants/desires at the moment you are making them.

What Is My Human Design?
Although strategy and authority types are a large part of your human design; there are so many different aspects that will help you learn more about yourself. It will even help you with how to manage your energy and relationships. Now, you’re probably wondering what your human design is or where you can find your human design chart.
First you’ll need to make sure you have all of your birth details: birth date, exact time of birth, and birth location. Once you’ve got all of that information you can enter it into a free human design chart generator online. Places like myhumandesign.com or ahumandesign will generate your chart for you with high level information but you’ll have to pay for a full chart reading. Of course you can always do your research to try and figure things out on your own, but it is nice to have a human design expert help you.
Closing Thoughts
The energetic blueprint that is your human design chart can help you in so many ways. From your personal life(romantic relationships or major life decisions) and how to recharge your energy to the best way to make career or business decisions. One thing that goes hand in hand with your human design is trust. Learning to trust yourself, your wants/desires, needs and your unique gifts. This is where all aspects of your practice come to play together. To help connect you to that inner knowing so that you can trust yourself completely.
